Founded in 2000, Bodega Refine started to grow vines on Gobi Desert in Heshuo, Bayingol. At the beginning, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Gernischt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi, Merlot, Chardonnay, Riesling and Welschriesling were the varieties. From 2009, the dominant varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Riesling. Shiraz was then introduced and has become one of the dominant varieties ever since. Until now, there are 67ha undervine, within which, 40ha are Cabernet Sauvignon,13.5ha are Merlot, 11.5ha are Shiraz and 2ha are Riesling. There are 100,000kg to 200,000kg grapes every year.
Bodega Refine has been built in traditional Chinese Great Wall style with semi-underground cellar surrounded by Buddhism music.
The founder of Bodega Refine, Ms. Jie Song is a Buddhist and treat the nature with great respect and shows great commitment and determination in running the winery.
The winemaker, Ms. Xiaoxia Feng has been assigned as the Chief Winemaker since 2006. Graduated from Northwest A&F University in 1988 as one of the first group of graduates specializing in viticulture and winemaking, Ms. Feng shows great passion in winemaking and belived in “great wine comes from a great vineyard”. Since 2014, Shiraz was made in a single variety styleand has been highly appraised. Ms. Feng believes Shiraz from Heshuo shares similar characteristics as Australian Shiraz and deserves further attention and effort.
Located in the south foot of Mount Tianshan, Heshuo is blessed with sufficient sunlight, dry climate and sandy soil. The grapes from this region benefit from thick skins, rich aromas and healthy bunches.
From 2006, Refine wines have been recognized by customers and being promoted by word-of mouth.
After a 3-year transition period with zero chemicals and full record of viticulture and winemaking, Bodega Refine gained CQC organic certification.
